The job of the stage manager, simply put, is to make everyone else's job easier. Clear, consistent, timely communication with all parties is essential.  No one should ever be wondering when or where they need to be.  The stage manager is the liaison among the director, actors, designers and technicians.  She is the keeper of the book, the scheduler, and the repository of all vital information regarding a production.
